Hostel World

A dude just charged at me full force because he was pissed I kicked him out of the hostel. Honestly, I was being pretty decent about it. The time between me telling him he had to go (very apologetically) and him freaking out was about an hour. So, I was practicing maximum patience and empathy. But, it got to that point where it was obvious I needed to be assertive or this guy was not going to leave. Which is pretty fucking hard for me. My body constantly betrays me and I cry at really weird and inappropriate times. The last time I had to DNA someone I was definitely close. Anyways, I guess he hadn’t taken me seriously earlier because he absolutely flipped out when I gave him a time limit. He hit his own head, screamed at the top of his lungs and then turned and ran at me. So, I fucking ran away and locked myself in the manager’s office. I immediately called the police. Out of the whole situation I think that this is the part that bothers me the most. And it’s really hard for me to explain why. It’s no secret that I have a hate on for the police. But in this situation I genuinely needed some kind of assistance. There was obviously no chance of me getting this guy out myself and non-violently. It’s mandatory when we DNA someone (kick ‘em out for good) that we verbally notify them of them ban. So, I was trying to give him the speech as the cops walked him out and he told me to, “shut my whore mouth.” So, there’s that. I’m feeling unusually calm about the situation. Granted, I’m in a hostel with 50+ other guests the majority of whom are dudes and my friends. I’m just bummed I had to buy into the system and couldn’t use my fucking words. Does anyone have resources on how to deal with violent situations as a pacifist? WWTDD? What would “The Dude” do?
